How to Avoid Semi-Truck Accidents
Follow these tips to maximize road safety:
Approach trucks with caution. Semi-trucks, tractor trailers and other commercial trucks operate differently from cars.
Stay out of a truck’s blind spot whenever traffic allows. If you can’t see a truck’s mirrors, the trucker can’t see you.
Do not cut in front of trucks. Trucks such as 18-wheelers or delivery trucks are heavy and require three times the braking distance of a regular car.
Give semi-trucks extra space in wet conditions. Remember that a tractor trailer needs three times the braking distance of a passenger vehicle. If your braking distance increases in the wet conditions, that means the braking distances for semi-trucks and 18-wheelers increases as well.
Do not pass a turning truck. Commercial trucks, tractor trailers and other types of large trucks require wide turns and lots of space. You can easily be hit while passing a truck that’s making a turn.
Call the police or your local authorities if you see unsafe trucking.
